The grand jury hearing evidence in the death of Elizabeth Steinberg was extended for 30 days Wednesday, and sources said the extra time was to allow lawyers for Hedda Nussbaum to secure her cooperation in the case.
Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced the extension for the grand jury, which has already indicted Joel Steinberg for second-degree murder and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the case.
The extension means the grand jury will not be asked to indict Nussbaum, who has lived with Steinberg for 17 years, for at least another month. She has been charged by police with murder and two …
