COMPUTER MALFUNCTION DELAYS `TIMES UNION'.(CAPITAL REGION)

A malfunctioning computer board in the Times Union's data network was responsible for a delay in the publication of Wednesday's editions.

The malfunction stalled efforts to print the final five pages of the 56-page paper just 40 minutes before the scheduled start of the presses.

Technicians on site set in motion a series of emergency procedures, according to George R. Hearst III, director of operations.

By 1:30 a.m., a 10-member technical team was at work creating alternate data pathways to get the combination of text, graphics, page rules and photographs to the composing room, Hearst said.
